As much as I love that relaxed vibe that long summer days offer, Winter fashion has a special place in my heart. Oversized knits, textured layers and long lined coats. Need I say more?

As much as I love that relaxed vibe that long summer days offer, winter fashion has a special place in my heart. Oversized knits, textured layers and long lined coats. Need I say more?

One of my most cost effective and essential items to wear in winter is a cool pair of tights. The reason I love wearing tights is because they allow me to get extra mileage from all my favourite summer pieces. It means I can wear leather skirts, knitted dresses and shorts on the coldest days without the worry of getting chilly.

In the past, I only associated stockings with corporate wear, but that is no longer the case. Now I love teaming sheer black stockings with my short leather skirts and my favourite knit. My thicker opaque stockings give my knit dresses a slimming look and I also love wearing my sheer nude tights with those dresses that call for that bare leg look.

Here are four of my favourite ways to incorporate leggings and stockings into your winter wardrobe:

1. Cool day-to-night wear when you want to look banging: This is my favourite look to wear on the weekend when I am meeting the girls at our favourite cafe (but possibly heading out for a sneaky wine later). So I want to look casual but still a little dressy. These sheer slimming tights in black magic colour are perfect (Voodoo has always been one of my favourite stocking brands because they are more durable) so these stockings allow me to still wear my favourite leather mini whilst staying warm.

2. With your coat and knit dress on a chilly day: A long lined oatmeal coat thrown over my heavy knit dress is by far my favourite look to rock all winter. Now that I am pregnant I have been living in oversized high-neck dresses for their comfort (it also helps that you can hide so much under there) and sometimes I get sick of my skinny leg jeans and pants and want to mix it up. These opaque tights are also super slimming and work with all my ankle boots.

3. Corporate wear with a fashion edge: You can’t beat corporate wear in winter. There are so many options that look fierce and sexy at the same time. Polka dot prints, lace and these sexy seamed stockings are the way to go. They are perfect for me, as I wear a lot of plain, classic pieces in black, grey and white so stockings with some edge give my winter corporate look some power.

4. Edge up your winter look: This look is for those of you that want an easy look that you can wear anywhere from a long day shopping with Mum or at a relaxed day party. I have been living in these ankle boots all winter long, and I never take my IRO leather jacket off. This look would be too heavy with opaque or sheer black stockings, so that’s when I turn to nude stockings. I have also been known to wear nude stockings, as it gets warmer too, as you get used to how good they make your legs look.
