I can’t believe my little man just turned one.

I can’t believe my little man just turned one. This year has gone way too fast and even though at times it has been super challenging (FYI, he still isn’t sleeping through the night) there was a part of me that felt a little sad when he turned one because he is no longer my little newborn, he is growing up way too fast.

It is just incredible how much they change every day, and Aston has one of the biggest personalities, he is very stubborn, bossy, always on the go and naughty (not sure who he got that from, haha) but he is also very sensitive and loving, he loves to give big sloppy ‘kissies’ all day long.

We decided to have his birthday at the very chilled West Beach Pavilion in St Kilda. It was the perfect location as it is very close to our house. The venue is great for us adults because they serve fabulous drinks and food,  but also perfect for the kiddies as it’s right on the beach and has a beautiful big area so all the children can run around and play in the sand.

Those of you that have been reading my blog for a while will know that I have written a lot about how unorganised I am when it comes to organising my own events. So I decided to use the fabulous girls at Creating Beautiful to help me pull Aston’s birthday together. I have stalked their Instagram for a little while so I knew they were the right team for me, as they have styled some incredible events, particularly first birthdays.

Bright pops of colour with a focus on green and blue to highlight the beautiful beachside location was our focus for Astons birthday. We wanted a level of sophistication- because even though it was a first birthday, the majority of guests were adults I wanted to make sure it was the perfect mix for the young and old.

We created a huge balloon wall from the lovely team at Poppies for Grace and boy do they know balloons, they are the best in the biz, and I was so thrilled with the way it turned out, especially when I saw Aston’s reaction when he saw it. It helped us keep all the kids entertained all day long.

Keeping with the green theme we had some cool deep jade coaches from Harry The Hirer and also some clean white high stools and chairs. We thought it would be fun to create some personalised cushions and coasters (thanks to Master Otis Designs, Sketch & Etch and The Print) for nailing a cool design focussing on Aston’s initials AJB, yes, some of you may think this is over the top, but I am a fan of anything personalised and love playing it up. It means I can always remember his special day when I look at the coasters and cushions.

Now let’s talk about dessert. I was obsessed with our set up. I couldn’t decide between a cake, cookies, etc. so we went all out and included all my favourites. Laduree came to the party with creamy macaroons in pistachio and vanilla.

I also love cookies, who doesn’t?! So Bake Me Cake Me created the best cookies coated in jade green and silver leaf icing. They also had cute slogans like #prince, ladies man, Aston Is One etc. These cookies tasted as good as they looked.

Our cake was insane, thanks to Treats for Evie, yummo. All about that mud choc heaven. And yep, I had to have Doughnut Time doughnuts because it isn’t a party without them. It was such a warm day, so we also included sweet Ice Cream pops from Popstic ice cream, and as you can imagine, they were a massive winner with all the older kids- as well as Aston, oops.

See below for my full supplier list.

Now to start planning for his birthday next year…eeeep!
