I am sure you are aware, this season, one of the biggest trends is sports luxe. I noticed it was also one of the most popular looks down the catwalk at Australian Fashion Week earlier this year, and more recently at the David Jones and Myer SS15 shows. I love sports luxe because you can feel casual whilst looking dressed up; the key to rocking this look is keeping it sophisticated.
I am excited to partner with Wittner today and share with you my sports luxe style from morning to night.
// 6:30am. I have always been a early riser, even during my teenage years, 8am was considered a big sleep in. My body clock always wakes up between 6 to 6:30am (very frustrating on weekends, when I want to sleep in). I usually check my emails whilst laying in bed, then I am up to do something active to get me started for the day, exercising has been a new addition in the last few months, I haven’t exercised for a year, but I have realised it is key to keeping me more alert, healthy and happy.
With exercise, I need to mix it up, or else I lose interest. I love Yoga 213, walking into the studio, you are welcomed with a cool Californian vibe (pineapples are a big theme). These yoga classes offer a unique twist, as you do the moves whilst listening to tunes from Jay Z, Biggie and Frank Ocean. I have also been taking boxing classes with Ruan at FITE in South Melbourne, and I am obsessed.
Heading to Yoga, I need shoes that I can easily get slip on and off, that’s why I love these Wittner slides, yes slides are a controversial footwear choice (I can hear your saying my Dad has these shoes) but lets face it, slides have become one of the biggest trends of SS15.
I love the quilted texture and athletic lines of these Wittner Marre, you can team these with almost any sports inspired outfit from your workout leggings to boyfriend jeans. I like playing with contrasts, these black slides work with an all white look, cropped pants and tailored shorts are ideal. I love that you can also get these slides in white, which then works perfectly with all an all black outfit. Keep your look clean, crisp and opt for neutrals.
// 8:30am. I am back home and ready to start my day. I mostly work from home. At times it can be hard to stay motivated, but I try to keep everything structured, so emails and content writing in the morning with shoots and meetings in the afternoon.
// 1:30pm. Meeting with the lovely girls at The LOFFT Fashion Agency. I love seeing these girls and viewing new collections. They represent a cool mix of Australian and international labels with Viktoria + Woods, Bec & Bridge, First Base and Jamie Ashkar on the top of my list.
I try to keep my sports luxe look stripped back during the day, I like to wear one sporty item with tailored minimal pieces, these mules are the hero of my look. The mule is definitely the shoe of the moment and I’m a big fan. The key to wearing the mule is making it edgy and sophisticated rather than pretty. Mules work with midi skirts, wide length pants and skinny cropped jeans.
This look is perfect for relaxed meetings, I love that mules are so versatile so you could throw on a mesh bomber jacket to make it look sportier or some leather shorts and a classic white shirt will elevate your look for a night out on the town or dinner. These black mules would also look super chic with a head to toe black leather outfit, slick hair and a pop of colour on your lip.
// 3pm. Catching up with a client at Top Paddock in Richmond. So many of the PR agencies and fashion brands are based in this area, so it’s a great spot to meet. The ‘seasonal avocado with lime and sea salt’ and the ‘blueberry and ricotta hotcakes’ are my favourite dishes.
Take the white jean, it’s a simple casual piece, but easy to dress up with these laser cut leather points. I take these points with me, while i am on shoots, as the kitten heel means I can easily get around and they feel so comfortable, I actually forget I am even wearing heels.
I have also been wearing these heels with white wide length pants (so chic at the moment) and a simple grey tee for a casual sports inspired look.
//6:30pm. I head out to grab dinner with my girlfriends, I love trying new restaurants with my hubby or my girls. Tonight, it was time to check out the much talked about Kong, as expected, it didn’t disappoint, I was never worried, as it is owned by the same owners that own Chin Chin and Baby Pizza (two of my favourite restaurants)
At night, I love playing up with monochrome colours and these mirrored heels scream luxe.
The sports luxe trend has grown up over the years, now its all about focussing on strong minimal shapes and luxe fabrics to bring in that sporty feel without having to dress so sporty (paring your sneakers with track trackpants is a no no). This dress has cool mesh detail with sleek cut-outs, it’s a great way to play up the sporty silhouette in a elegant way.
