Laughs With Michael Lo Sordo

Michael Lo Sordo is one of the most humble, down to earth and funny designers you will ever meet, it was a joy catching up with one of our most exciting Australian designers earlier this week. It was music to my ears when I found out Lavazza were collaborating with Lo Sordo for VAMFF to create an exclusive designed coffee cup, featuring Lo Sordo’s signature bold print.

It is obvious that this collaboration is a match made in heaven with Lo Sordo’s strong Italian heritage and love for culture, he fits in perfectly with the Lavazza ethos. Nicole Warne from renowned blog Gary Pepper Vintage was also just announced as Lavazza’s Style Consultant. She is was even more beautiful n real life with a gorgeous personality to match and will be a huge asset to the Lavazza brand.

See my interview with Lo Sordo below.

Tell us about this exciting collaboration with Lavazza and how it came about? As soon as this collaboration was presented to me I was honoured and excited – I jumped at the opportunity. Lavazza is a brand that I have known and grown up with for years. Lavazza’s presence internationally in film and fashion is part of the reason I feel the two brands aligned seamlessly.

The Butterfly Effect Fall print you have designed for the Lavazza coffee cups is breathtaking. What was the process to create this unique print?

Every season our signature prints derive from the concept of nature. Over the last couple of seasons exotic animals and insects have been a recurring theme in the design process. In this collection, innovations in print and the injection of colour and culture are standout features.

For this collaboration we wanted to do something striking and on par to Lavazza’s aesthetics. Using a variety of exotic flavours and essences for their coffee flavours inspired this choice.

Is drinking coffee a part of your everyday ritual?  Coffee has been a part of my daily routine for as long as I remember. Growing up in a strong Italian family, our culture is surrounded by a sense of community and coming together. Whether it is a quick meeting or a lunch date, coffee is a part of my day and brings me a sense of balance and creativity.

I’m personally a latte kind of girl, how do you like to drink your coffee?  Short and black. Just to give me the right amount of kick for the day.

3 key pieces to buy this autumn/winter season? A pink coat, a great turtleneck and of course one of my signature print pencil skirts!

What trends can we expect to see on the runway this VAMFF? This season I think we will be seeing a lot of clean tailoring with an emphasis on cut and fabrications, vibrant colours and hues. This season for many designers was all about beautifully crafted clothes, with a fresh take on masculinity and strength.

You are showing at MBFWA once again this year, your show was a standout last year. Any hints on what we might see from your latest collection? This upcoming MBFWA will see a continued journey into the essence of the Michael Lo Sordo brand, a strong take on classic tailoring with an injection of colourful hues. It’s all about celebrating the modern woman and making her feel more beautiful and more confident.
