Woo hoo, my favourite time of year has arrived. Hello, Derby Day!

Woo hoo, one of my favourite times of year has arrived. Hello, Spring Racing, and hurray to the best day, Derby Day!

There are many reasons that Derby Day tops my list. It’s the first day to officially launch the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival and secondly is the cool monochrome dress code. It’s all about classic black and white baby, just the way I like it.

This year I wasn’t sure if I would be able to go until the very last minute. Being nine months pregnant I wasn’t sure if I would feel okay (every day is different). Luckily, I have been feeling good this last week, thank god little bub didn’t decide to come early.

Then there was the next problem of finding an outfit. It’s hard enough to find a spring racing outfit at the best of times, as you want your look unique (ain’t nobody got time for anyone else in your outfit), elegant and also make sure you are sticking with VRC’s strict racing dress code.

I needed a dress with stretch- and lots of it. I love a bit of structure to my outfit, so it is hard only looking at dresses with stretch.  I also noticed that so many items that you think have stretch also have a band around the waistline which made it impossible with my huge bump.

I opted for a cute black and white speckled dress from Melbourne label, Nicholas. I could have gone for all black (and I would have looked slimmer, but I thought I should go for something a little different). I loved the simplicity of the shape and the sharp off the shoulder neckline. How amazing are off-the-shoulder necklines?! I have been obsessed for the last few seasons, yet I am still not bored of them. I think they are elegant to wear to a race day because they are such a classic shape. This dress has so much stretch in it, so I was so comfortable.

I teamed my dress with a Studio Aniss laser cut headpiece, that Aniss designed to work with my dress. I have worn Aniss’s pieces to the races for the last few years and every year she nails racewear headwear, as she mixes elegance with a bit of edge.

As you know, hair and makeup is always a huge focus for me. Nailing your beauty look is key to finishing your look.

I am always on Pinterest or Instagram screen grabbing new makeup and hair looks; I am a little too obsessed.

I am so lucky to have my trusty duo of Marie Uva from UVA SALON and Chantelle Baker work their magic on my face. I love working with these two because we all work together to pick a cool look. It all starts with me showing them a picture of my outfit and then we decide on the best glam look. I always look to J-low, Kim Karshaian and Rosie Huntington-Whitely for makeup inspo, as I love bronzed, smokey and contoured look. Even though it’s not about contouring anymore- it’s all about strobing ( I will detail more about this beauty look soon)

Big love to MYER for hosting the hubby and I. I definitely didn’t party on like I usually would, but it was still lots of fun. Until next year x
