I’m very much a basics kind of girl. If you also concur you can’t go past Melbourne born brand Skin and Threads for incredibly high quality and luxurious basics, denim, footwear and knitwear.

I therefore couldn’t miss out on the Skin and Threads new store launch on Friday in Chadstone. To help celebrate the launch they teamed up with Sensory Lab, offering customers premium coffee as they shopped. You couldn’t ask for a better fit, great clothes and creamy coffee equals perfection!

It was such a pleasure catching up Skin and Threads beautiful director and designer Penelope Cohen, she took me through the current Autumn/Winter 13 collection.

Your store has a beautiful feel, which makes me feel relaxed as soon as I enter. With more consumers shopping online. Do you put extra focus on your retail space? Yes it is very important for our customers to feel at ease as soon as they walk in. We have 3 stores in Melbourne and we try to create the same feel in all. We have brought in beautiful Scandinavian furniture as we believe the Scandinavians do simplicity beautifully so its our reference. We have a strong focus on our retail front, which translates to online.

Favourite piece from the current collection? My favourite piece is definitely our Cashmere boyfriend sweater.

I agree with Penelope on this piece, the texture is amazing! I have been searching for a jumper like this to go over my shirts in Winter.

Your change rooms are very unique with gorgeous imagery and Scandinavian furniture. What is the story behind this? My family is from Northern NSW. Each store has slightly different photos. With this store we wanted to showcase more of the outback. These images are taken on our family property in NSW.

Your current Autumn/Winter 13 collection is stunning with a colour palette of burgundy, lemon and blue. Where did you draw your inspiration from? Our main inspiration was Parisian street style, we want to express that you don’t need to wear a lot to make your outfit stand out.We want to focus in how the Parisians have a effortless cool sense of style. Its all about mixing a simple cardigan with ballet flats and distressed jeans and they look incredible so that’s where we draw our inspiration from for this collection.

The quality of your pieces is so evident. Where is all your clothing made? Yes our ethos of superior quality and an aesthetic of simple sophistication permeate each and every piece. All of our basics are Australian made with Australian fabrics. Our footwear is made in Italy and our knitwear is Italian yarn made off shore. We try to keep as much as we can onshore.

Lastly, I have seen many well wellknown International celebrities sporting your pieces? Yes we are really lucky we have had some great celebrity coverage. Charlize Theron was in our ballet flats recently. Sarah Jessica Parker, Miranda Kerr and Angelina Jolie are also fans.

Check out the label online skinandthreads.com or go in-store and be greeted with the beautiful spacious lifestyle feel, enjoy!
