I have been a Bec & Bridge girl for as long as I can remember. They have saved the day on countless occasions with cool-girl party dresses, that are feminine, on-trend and also affordable. Bec & Bridge have quickly grown to become one of the biggest Australian labels, and are making a huge mark abroad, with a list of celebrity fans including Miranda Kerr and Nicole Richie. Their successful fashion week show is still on my mind, it was easily one of my favourites of the week. So I have been eagerly waiting for this Spring Sumer 14 collection ‘Layla’ to drop. The talented duo share their inspiration for this collection, favourite piece and a beauty product they can’t live without.
// What’s the inspiration behind your latest spring summer collection ‘Layla’? In this collection, a soft yet sensual aesthetic is inspired by desert tones and a 70s sentimentality. Our girl Layla is adventurous of soul and young at heart, on a quest to taste freedom along the open road. Perpetually driving toward the horizon, the landscape of the desert enthuses her, and speaks to her bohemian spirit. Soft printed tees, distressed denim and feminine, bohemian shapes embody this. The colour palette of cornflower blue and dusty pink in the collection personifies the endless sky and hot desert sands, whilst digital motor prints and metal bolt-inspired fastenings are influenced by the motif of the car. The application of studded leather and zip detailing is symbolic of Layla’s toughness and determination whilst she makes both her physical and spiritual journey to discover herself.
// Do you follow trends or work more off an individual style point of view? Rather than trends, we are occasionally inspired by particular details – a colour, a textile manipulation, a proportion – which may influence our design approach when creating a collection. The Bec & Bridge girl is youthful and confident, and although she might be familiar with global trends, she doesn’t feel the need to follow them. She feels comfortable and sexy in her own skin and sense of style, and knows what she wants. We design solely for the Bec & Bridge girl – and although trends may sporadically influence us they certainly do not define our designs.
// What’s the standout piece of this collection? The Harley Eyelet Dress is a killer statement piece with the surprise strapping detail at the back. The Lone Ranger Shirt is also a favourite of mine – it’s classic and perfect for everyday wear.
// Must wear print or colour of the season? Our City of Roses print, which is inspired by the tattooed bikers on the open road, is feminine and modern with a darker twist. Must wear colour is definitely the ever fresh, lilac.
//I have noticed lots of international celebrities rocking Bec & Bridge. Who have been the highlights? It’s always exciting to see celebrities in Bec & Bridge. We loved seeing the gorgeous Kat Graham several weeks ago looking stunning in our Love in Vain Mesh dress. We are also huge fans of Elle McPherson, Nicole Richie and Eva Longoria, who are often spotted wearing b&b.
